Mr. Cantor became the Acting Chief Privacy Officer in February 2019. In this role, he is responsible for the operation and coordination of the Department’s program to protect individual privacy, to include ensuring compliance with the Privacy Act of 1974 and the E-Government Act of 2002. Additionally, Mr. Cantor serves as the Department’s Chief Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer and is responsible for overseeing all of the Department’s FOIA operations.
Mr. Cantor joined the Department of Homeland Security as Deputy Chief Privacy Officer on July 1, 2012. He previously served as the Acting Chief Privacy Officer and Chief Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Officer two times: from August 2012 until October 2013, and again from July 2016 until July 2017. He is a member of the Senior Executive Service, with more than 20 years of experience in privacy, transparency, and information access.
