Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA):

 

The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule is the first comprehensive US Federal protection for the privacy of personal health information (PHI). The HIPAA Privacy Rule establishes national standards to protect individuals’ medical records and other personal health information, and applies to health plans, health care clearinghouses, and health care providers that conduct electronic health care transactions.
