This week at their World Wide Developers Conference, Apple described how they are guaranteeing differential privacy when collecting individual user data from iOS devices.  This announcement exemplifies the growing acknowledgment that when working with sensitive data, privacy should be the default.

Apple’s announcement makes it clear that by embracing privacy techniques firms can develop leading algorithms and models to power services in a way that is intrinsically respectful of individual privacy.  This can provide a distinct and meaningful competitive advantage in a world where consumer trust is paramount.

It also aligns perfectly to our mission at Privitar.  Our software products enable any organisation to adopt these design principles. Privitar anonymises data with leading generalisation and perturbation techniques, and Privitar Lens’ permits collection and statistical analysis of data with differential privacy guarantees.
